margin detail

i follow this guy, chris piascik's flickr page.  he does daily drawings with tons of hand-drawn lettering.

he's part of a group, called margin detail, that's totally devoted to doodles.

Margin Detail is a collection of unrefined doodles by working illustrators and designers including Eric Ellis, Chad Kouri, Jesse Hora, Chris Piascik and Kate Bingaman-Burt as well as other guest contributors. The only problem is… we can’t come to a decision on what defines a doodle! Does it have to be done quickly? Only use one drawing utensil? small? crappy?! All of the above? We just don’t know. So, help us out! What do you think a doodle is? Leave your definition below while we fumble our way through finishing the rest of the site for our launch on MARCH 28th. Enjoy!
you can leave them a note describing what you think defines a doodle.

doodlers anonymous

i doodle all the time. mostly letters but sometimes drawings. meetings, class, in front of the t.v. - it doesn't matter - if i have a pen in my hand i'm doodling.

stumbled across this site, devoted entirely to doodling, just this evening.

doodlers anonymous dot com

in any class or meeting i've ever sat through chances are i've doodled my way through it. i can't help it. i try to hide it.

i can't wait for this website to really launch.

greenery

the other day i brought 7 pairs of pants to be altered. some of the pants are new. one pair i've had since january 2005. yep, i like to take my time.

on the way to back from taking my pants i passed a store with a beautiful terrarium in the window. and now i'm obsessed with terrariums. i want to make one.

i did an etsy search and happened upon this one from made by mavis:

my search also led me to the following, by greenware designs:

greenware designs not only makes the planters, they plant them for you.  i love their stuff.

the colors in this one are striking:

designer cheese, via Cool Hunting.

the DesignKAAS
site says:

Dutch Cheese with good taste and good looks!

Nowadays the design of products is getting more important, also for food. Since the Dutch are famous for it`s cheese and it`s Dutch Design, Marinde van Leeuwen (food) designer) decided to combine those two in Dutch Design Cheese.

also, notable:

We pay fair prices to the farmers and 10% of the profits is donated to a good cause. Dutch Design Cheese supports Dutch foundations that protect the typical Dutch nature (landscapes with dikes and windmills) and the typical Dutch crafts.

A Collage A Day, is a project by Kentucky based artist Randel Plowman. He creates one four by four inch collage a day and puts it up on his wesbite for sale. He charges $25 each, which includes matting, documentation and shipping.

I like this one:

Mollie Dash makes cute, one of a kind necklaces. Love this one:

It's a hit

photo.jpg
We set up Ollie's highchair today. It might be a little premature, however, what the hell, we'll give it a shot. He'll be in it sooner than later.   Sometimes I wish I could be like Evie, from Out of this World, and freeze time.

As much as I think Ollie is already changing and growing up too fast, I am looking forward to doing crafts with him when he's a little older. Arounna Khounnoraj's site, devoted to projects that are perfect for little ones is so fun.

For example, Project #18 Shadowbox collage, is so cool!

And I'm a sucker for a good mobile. Project #5 Found Object Mobile

I'm digging Project #2: Fabric collage, too. I'd love one for my wall.

Maybe I won't wait for Ollie and I'll make one soon.

Cheap

1. I took the 25 things about me meme from Facebook and pasted it into my blog yesterday. All because I mentioned Keifer Sutherland's name, I've received more hits on this blog than I have for the entire time I've been keeping it. Who knew!?

2. Experiment: Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie,  Barack Obama, Tom Dashle,  Miley Cyrus

3. My dad calls Facebook, spacebooks. Gabe knows someone who calls it myface.

4.  There's local blog that I read, that I won't name, because I don't want to be an asshole. I can't stop reading it.  And it drives me crazy because the kid who writes it was born and raised in San Jose. AND HE SPELLS EVERYTHING THE BRITISH WAY. For example: Favourite. Colour. Sodomising.

That's all I have tonight.  A bunch of nonsense.

Night!

Lazy

Today was my first day back at work. I'm so tired. Heading to bed. I took this from my Facebook page.

25 random things about me.
1. I'd rather go to the gynecologist than the dentist. Pap smear over a filling any day, thanks.
2. I get emotional when I recall both the day I went to the hospital and my labor. The day I went to the hospital was spent with Gabe and it was the last time it was just the two of us. The labor because, duh, I had Ollie.
3. I want to go back to school.
4. I was terrified of childbirth: it wasn’t so bad. And everyone was right-SO worth it. I love being a mom.
5. The sight and sound of Gabe laughing hard makes me really happy.
6. I love gossip magazines. I yearn to sit on a beach in Hawaii, beer in one hand, magazine in the other.
7. I'd be willing to nap everyday.
8. I inherited the worry gene from my father. I have to have something to worry about. At all times.
9. I was a vegetarian for a number of years. Now I love steak and burgers.
10. I love really hot weather. I also love the rain. I am not only happy when it rains.
11. I love my family and look forward to spending time with them.
12. Many of my good friends have left SF. Sometimes I feel lonely here.
13. I recently started a blog. It took me two months to come up with a name, which I still don’t love but I was getting sick of trying to figure that piece out.
14. I like clothes but I'm a terrible shopper. Often I will spend an hour finding stuff to try on and then when I get in line I decide I don’t want to wait so I leave. It drives Gabe crazy.
15. I like the idea of dresses but I mostly wear jeans.
16. The ocean always makes me happy.
17. I hate being late. I feel like I’m being incredibly rude. Strangely, I don’t usually mind when other people are late.
18. When we were young my brother Anthony and I tried to make clove cigarettes. We rolled up cloves from the spice cabinet in binder paper and scotch taped them closed. Then we tried to light them on fire.
19. I was born with a cyst on my neck. It would periodically get infected. I had to have it operated on when I was 10. My grandfather did the surgery.
20. My mom had breast cancer at 40. She had radiation and has been fine for the last 21 years.
21. Gabe and I go to Santa Cruz every year for my birthday; it’s my favorite day of the year. We’ve gone 9 years in a row. Since I turned 16.
22. I’m shy until I get to know someone and horrible at small talk, which makes me a terrible party guest.
23. I met my friend Catherine in the 6th grade. The first time she invited me over for dinner, her mom picked us up in their silver Volkswagen van and Catherine asked her mom if we could have Top Ramen for dinner. Her mom said sure. I had recently learned they were German so I thought it was German dish. That began my junior high obsession with Top Ramen.
24. I love being in libraries. I find them peaceful.
25. One time I was in Park City Utah and Kiefer Sutherland was eating breakfast at the table across from us. He was wearing a jean jacket and jeans. He was with a woman, who was perhaps his wife or girlfriend. She too was wearing a jean jacket and jeans. When they left I talked my friend Scott into coming with me to follow them.
