good fun thing(s) TO READ (day 9)

let's make that good things to read elsewhere.

is there anyone who doesn't read dooce? i doubt it. just in case, i read this while i was holding ollie (trying to get him to sleep) and it made me laugh so hard my entire body was shaking.

elizabeth is the reason i've recently peppered every conversation possible with "no big whoop." she's always a good read.

this blog is a good read. speaking of, this is sweet.

if you read yesterday's post, you'll understand why i was so happy megan of not martha linked to this.

i wrote an entire post about my lovely husband last night, and blogger all the sudden flashed an error message. too much love for blogger i guess. so i give you the brief version:

4 years ago today, i married this man.

my husband
isn't he a looker? this was on our honeymoon. we were on the island of hvar, eating dinner looking out over the beautiful ocean. gabe had 8 kinds of mussels. i didn't have a single mussel.

i couldn't ask for a better father for my son. i couldn't ask for a better best friend. you make me want to be a better person every single day.

i love you, gabriel.

saipua soap

a while back i bought saipua's clary sage with patchouli and dill soap. i put it on the windowsill of my bathroom and it smelled so good. i finally opened it on saturday and oh my god, i'm in love. it smells amazing and it's unlike any other soap i've ever used. it goes on smooth against the skin, but it's not too slick (if that makes sense?). and, it makes my skin smell good and feel soft. the packaging is gorgeous, too.

happy little clouds

growing up i had a friend named megan. we met on our first day of preschool. her house was magical. (one day i have to tell you about it.) the theme of her room was rainbows. she had rainbows and clouds painted on her walls and ceiling. these make me think of megan's room.

kika's treats

i'm positively IN LOVE with locally made kika's treats. cristina beshar was born and raised in brazil until she came to SF in 1999. she's got several varieties of shortbreads and graham crackers that are enrobed in chocolate (milk and dark available). everything is made with local ingredients including straus creamery butter and guittard chocolate. my very favorite kika's treat though? her braziian honey cakes.

product_brazilian_honey
darling packaging, too.

it's a dense, slightly spicy honey cake, dipped in dark chocolate.

another cool thing about cristina beshar, she started out working with la cocina, based in the mission.

from the la cocina website:
The mission of La Cocina is to cultivate food entrepreneurs as they formalize and grow their businesses by providing afford able commercial kitchen space, industry-specific technical assistance and access to market opportunities. We focus primarily on women from culturally diverse and immigrant communities. Our vision is that entrepreneurs will become economically self-sufficient and con tribute to a vibrant economy doing what they love to do.

flora grubb gardens

we went to flora grubb gardens today and explored.

here's what we were looking for:
  • items to replace some expired plants in the terrarium. i swear i kill all plants.
  • a new base for our plant in our living room because we have visions of ollie pulling the whole thing down on him, which is a scary thought.
  • a new air plant for the shelf in the hallway. i've managed to kill my second air plant in 2 years. (do you know how hard it is to kill an air plant?! do you?!)
we didn't manage to accomplish all of our list, but not for lack of selection. i think it'll require a second trip back. we did get a ritual coffee to drink as we browsed. can't beat that.
and we bought a base for the plant, which we've decided to park on the floor.

if you haven't been to flora grubb yet, it's so worth the trip. i'm still thinking about it 4 hours later.

check out the vertical garden, it's incredible.

lately

olie's changing so much everyday i can't believe how what a little person he is now.

on sunday i took him swimming for the first time. he was unsure about the pool and held on to me with an iron grip. he lasted for about 6 minutes and the other kids started splashing and he burst into tears. afterwards he drowned his sorrows in a grape popsicle and was back to his normal self.

he babbles constantly and his most uttered words are, "duh, duh duh." he speaks duhtch

he uses his hands quite a bit when he talks. my brother said it must be the italian in him.

he likes to eat everything, including his toys.
photo.jpg

he really wants to crawl, but mostly he just scoots backwards.

photo.jpg

he's super expressive.
