Our mission is to re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it.
Outstanding in the Field is a roving culinary adventure – literally a restaurant without walls. Since 1999 we have set the long table at farms or gardens, on mountain tops or in sea caves, on islands or at ranches. Occasionally the table is set indoors: a beautiful refurbished barn, a cool greenhouse or a stately museum. Wherever the location, the consistent theme of each dinner is to honor the people whose good work brings nourishment to the table.
Ingredients for the meal are almost all local (sometimes sourced within inches of your seat at the table!) and generally prepared by a celebrated chef of the region. After a tour of the site, we all settle in: farmers, producers, culinary artisans, and diners sharing the long table.

i've not yet seen it but there is a new "between two ferns up." zach galifianakis interviews ben stiller. once we get through our two episodes of "the wire," i'll watch it. (we're now 2 episodes into season 3. gabe told me he wants to just get through it so he can watch something else.)

i've never had a way with plants. even with the best intentions, i always seem to kill them. i once kept a plant alive for about a year and a half and that's my own personal best. of course, it was an air plant that really didn't require i do anything special.
recently someone gave me a lavender plant and a mint plant. i'm struggling with the lavendar, however, i think that has more to do with the weather. the mint seems to be doing okay so far, we'll see.
i like both of these:

mid-week post about meat
i had to get up early this morning. early like 4:45 early. the rain woke me up even before my alarm went off and i'm wiped. and yes, it's 10:30 and i should already be in bed, so i'll make this quick.

ollie's been reading the car section from the sunday paper.
he loves the truck ads. go figure.
i like to pretend that he's checking out the want ads, looking for a job.
i've been waiting for the day we can color together. we tried on saturday after breakfast.
a little on the paper, a little on the floor, and a few attempts at eating them. mostly he was interested in putting the crayons back in the box. or trying to rather.
and as much as i was excited to color with him i wish i could freeze time right now because this age is so much fun.
