over dinner

one of ollie's best buddies at school is named f. f has a little brother, k, who is one. this was our conversation tonight at the dinner table

ollie: f has a k.
me: yes, f has a little brother, k.
ollie: we don't have a k?
me: no, we don't have a baby.
ollie: can we go to the store and get one tomorrow?

hotel room bliss

pretty much his idea of a perfect morning: cars 2, which he calls "boat-water," because, well, it starts off with a boat in the water and a donut.

pie

every year gabriel and my mother-in-law, make delicious pies. this year was no different. there was a pumpkin, an apple and a sweet potato bourbon pie.

ollie's mater (from cars) drove through the pumpkin pie. it was not an accident. i can't say i blame him.

wednesday night i got to bond with my little niece, j a bit. we went to sushi with her mom and dad. we totally bored her, so she went to sleep.



but when we got home, she hammed it up for the camera. she talked and oooohhed and ahhhed and gurgled a lot.

yep, i'm in love.

yesterday was my granny's birthday. she would've been 91.

my aunt sent this photo out with the following note:

remembering mom on her birthday and giving thanks for our rosemary-mom-granny. november 22, 1920-february 21, 1995

dad's (my grandfather's) inscription on the back of this photo: what a bride-nassau '65



in this photo my grandmother was 45 years old and she'd given birth to 8 children. eight. i can't wrap my head around this. she was an amazing woman and i have so many lovely memories of her. she had a fantastic jewelry box and she'd let me play with all of her costume jewelry. she had a drawer of drugstore lipsticks in her bathroom. i remember them all as being coral, though i know they weren't. she'd save all of her many, many catalogs and everytime i'd go over to her house, she'd give them to me...

so many really happy memories of this woman. there's much more to tell about her, but i'll save that for another time. such a beauty, inside and out.

today he was thrilled to be able to use the bumbrella he got for his birthday. (and i'm thrilled that there were no injuries or damage as a result of the bumbrella!)


it's really hard to correct someone when they say bumbrella. so sometimes i don't. i really want to call it a bumbrella myself, but i don't.

+i have to share this blog, where the lovely things are. there's so much good stuff here.


+ martín azúa's beautiful gold house, which inflates from body heat or the heat of the sun. it also fits in your pocket. wish we could bring this on our next picnic.

i bought it for g. years ago. YEARS ago. one of the legs is broken. wish i knew who made it so i could buy more of them.

both mornings this weekend my little buddy woke me up before 6 AM. it was still dark so we had fun with this.
