consignment

since we moved to the east bay almost a year ago, i've found some children's clothing consignment stores i really like for ollie. $5 for a pair of brand new vans can't be beat.

recently i also discovered a consignment store for me! sunday's purchases:

dress needed

we have a wedding coming up and i need a dress. join me in my search. know that i am not a dress type girl. i much prefer pants, even for weddings, but, since the wedding is in the thick of summer, in napa, it seems like a dress makes more sense.

while in austin we saw the rody at at a fun toy store, toy joy.



we initially thought we'd order the rody online, however, when we realized we were carrying back tons of other crap we decided why not buy the rody.

i can't wait for olls to try it out!

what we did in austin

all week g, o and i have been in austin, texas for the american cheese society conference.

we came early so we could see some of austin and hang with some special peeps.

four of those peeps included g's uncle and aunt, who reside in houston but were in austin for the first three days of our stay. they're super cool people, and their two beautiful kids are smart, funny and all around good kids. i wish we got to see them more.

we also got to see our old friend christina, who used to live in sf. she moved here a little over 3 years ago. since then, she's married a really sweet guy and had a gorgeous little son, who we got to meet. oh boy is he sweet and cute. seriously, i don't know how christina says no to her little guy. he's got big brown eyes, gorgeous sun-streaked hair and a smile that melts your heart.

we got to see some of austin, though after looking at the list below we mostly ate our way through austin. and shopped...

barton springs? there's nothing like it in san francisco. it's plain cool.

going on christina's recommendation we checked out uncommon objects on south congress. such a cool store. there are little (for lack of a better word) "stalls" that have little vignettes of rooms created. furniture, letters, glassware, pictures, shirts, jewelry...they have it all. i could've spent hours in here.

queso? i know so! i mean yes, please. if it weren't so hot here i would've bathed in the stuff. it's magic.

hello, relaxing! and tasty, too.

i mentioned the torchy's in a previous post, but i'll say it again: fried avocado tacos. hells yeah.

jo's coffee, located in the parking lot of our hotel. i think we ate here almost every morning. their espresso is just right and their breakfast burritos hit the spot.

what i bought in brooklyn

we went to the fantastic brooklyn flea during our trip.

we bought some good stuff. clothes for ollie, clothes for gabe and some jewelry for me. (and of course, food.)

i also bought one of these from here, except i bought a sterling silver letter o, for oliver, of course!



of course, ollie ripped the necklace off me not even 3 hours after i bought it. i was able to save the o, so now i just need to find a chain for it.

Growing up I had a friend named Anne.  She lived around the block from me and for a while I spent a fair amount of time playing at her house.  
One time I said the word sexy and she told me it was a bad word.  
One time I pulled a plug out of the socket, by pulling the cord part.  She told me it was a bad thing to do and she was sure it was by accident.
Her mom sold Mary Kay so we'd play with make up.
They had a microphone that hooked up to their stereo.  We'd plug it in and sing "Do Run Run." Over and over and over again.

They had a wall in behind their kitchen table that was covered in wallpaper that was a huge photograph of a waterfall. These pictures from Little Put Books remind me of the wallpaper at Anne's house.  In a good way. I want these:
